Japanese Rice (short grain rice) in microwave

Steamed short grain rice is an essential part of Japanese Food Culture.  By cooking rice in Donabe, you get to enjoy the fluffy, shiny, tender and delicious Japanese Style Rice.

Ingredients

★ cooking times may vary depending on your microwave's wattage, brand and size.

Directions

    1. Put the rice into the Microwave Donabe, then add enough tap water to cover the rice.
    2. Rinse the rice with your hand, then discard the water. (water will look like white/milky color)
    3. Repeat step 1 and 2 a few more times. (2~3 times: water color should be almost clear)
    4. Make sure the rinsed rice is well drained.
    5. Add 200ml of clean water to the donabe.
    6. put the lid on and soak the rice for at least 30 min. 
    7. Cook the Donabe with the lid on in a microwave for 8 min. 
    8. Let it sit for 10 min or so ( DO NOT open the lid)

    ***You can use a fine-meshed strainer for draining the water while you rinse the rice. ***It's important for the cleaned & well rinsed rice to be soaked in a clean water before cooking. ***DO NOT OPEN THE LID after you remove the Donabe from a microwave. (let the Donabe sit so the rice will be steamed ***For cooking 2 cups of rice, use 400ml of water and cook for 10 min. ( cooking time may vary depending on your microwave's wattage) ***It may boil over during cooking, place the pot on a heat-resistant plate.
